生息：砂場の中層をホバリングしている、ダテハゼなどと住処を共にしていることが多く、危険を感じると巣穴へ逃げ込む。
分布：富山湾、千葉県以南、西太平洋、インド洋

   尾びれの２～６本の軟条が後方へ長く伸びる。そのゆらゆらとした動きと消えるように巣穴へ逃げ込む動きから「幽霊ハゼ」とも呼ばれている。
