Snake Eels, Ophichthidae

Some of the snakes found in the sea belong to the Reptiles (a family of snakes and lizards on land) and the Ray-finned Eels (a family of fish eels), and are easily confused. Fish sea snakes are posted here and can be distinguished by the absence of scales. Also, unlike the reptile sea snakes, they do not have poison. Snake Eels is known to have 290 species in 52 genera of 2 subfamilies, and inhabits temperate to tropical regions.
